Meet Catherine Black, LPC (she/her/hers):
Hello! I’m a therapist and the Child and Adolescent Specialist at Olive Branch Therapy Group. I received my undergraduate degree in Child and Family Services with a minor in Sociology from Montclair State University and my graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from New Jersey City University.
My Therapy Specialties:
I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults. Along with a client centered approach, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and Exposure and Response Prevention to assist clients with the following needs: Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Low Self Esteem and Body Image Issues, School Issues, Social Problems, Trauma, OCD, and Family Dynamics.
What drew me to this work:
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to help people. Whether I was babysitting, helping friends, or humbly working with elders in a nursing home, I often found myself listening to peoples’ life stories. I am drawn to understanding people’s habits, behaviors, and the different ways the human mind can work. While I began my career as a school counselor, I quickly moved into my role as a primary outpatient therapist in a private practice setting and fell in love with this work and the environment, and have been here ever since.
My Style:
My style is one of welcoming, safety and acceptance. I recognize the challenges that come with seeking therapy and I believe it is my job is to help clients feel safe so that we can partner in overcoming maladaptive experiences and patterns.
You are the expert in your life and I am looking forward to helping you.
