Meet Jessica Cruz, LSW:
Hello! I’m a therapist at Olive Branch Therapy Group and a Licensed Social Worker. I received my undergraduate degree in Social Work from Rutgers University-Newark and my graduate degree in Social Work from New York University. My previous experience was working in an outpatient hospital setting specializing in partial hospitalization and outpatient services. There, I gained invaluable experience working with a diverse clientele facing a range of challenges, including substance use disorders, and mental health disorders.
My Therapy Specialties:
I specialize in providing trauma-informed care and comprehensive support tailored to meet your unique needs. My areas of expertise include:
- Depression and Anxiety: Guiding individuals through the complexities of depression and anxiety with compassionate support and evidence-based techniques.
- Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder: Supporting clients and their families in understanding and managing symptoms to achieve greater stability and well-being.
- Substance Use Disorders: Offering non-judgmental assistance in navigating recovery, exploring underlying trauma, and developing effective coping strategies.
- Suicidality: Providing a safe space to explore feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, while collaboratively developing safety plans and exploring reasons for living.
What drew me to this work:
My path to becoming a therapist began with a deep-rooted desire to create a safe space for healing and growth. I developed a passion for empowering individuals through therapy. As a Latinx therapist, I bring a culturally sensitive approach to my practice, honoring the unique backgrounds and experiences of each client. I am fluent in both English and Spanish, ensuring that language is never a barrier to receiving the support you deserve. What resonates most with me about this profession is the opportunity to create an empathetic space where individuals can explore their inner thoughts, confront obstacles, and discover their strengths.
My style:
My therapeutic style is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to meet your specific needs. Whether you’re navigating life transitions, managing anxiety or depression, or seeking to improve relationships, I am here to support you every step of the way. Together, we will explore your strengths and uncover new perspectives that promote healing and resilience. Drawing from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and a strength-based approach, I tailor my methods to meet the unique needs of each client.
A Little About Me:
Fun fact about me is I am left-handed! I enjoy writing poems and short stories, but mainly just free writing. I also enjoy reading, playing video games, cooking, taking care of my plants and enjoying nature.
I am passionate about community engagement and advocacy, striving to promote mental health awareness and accessibility. I am on the Board of Directors for the NASW-NJ as a Regional Representative.
Services I offer:
In-person therapy for adults and teens
